BNG Alumni 2025
Bocen Zhou (born 2001) is a contemporary jewellery artist and designer. She graduated with a BA in Jewellery Design from Central Saint Martins and earned an MA in Jewellery & Metal from the Royal College of Art. She currently lives and works between the UK and China.
Inspired by literary metaphors, art historical contexts, and ecological philosophy, her practice explores symbiotic relationships within the framework of the Anthropocene. Through mediums such as video, poetry, and jewellery, she investigates the boundaries between matter and spirit, order and chaos, life and death.
Adopting an almost archaeological approach, she brings dust, soil, glass, and pebbles into dialogue, constructing a visual epic on the cyclical transformation of matter in the universe. Her work invites viewers to re-examine their connections to nature, time, and one another through an immersive aesthetic experience. Her accolades include the Cartier Scholarship, the Marzee Graduate Prize, the MullenLowe NOVA Award, and recognition as a Bright New Gems winner.
